Funky Fields Burgers with Home Made Ketchup

Funky Fields Burgers with Home Made Ketchup

If you’ve been following my recipes you’ll know how much I absolutely adore using the plant based mince product from Funky Fields. You may think I’m being sponsored for these posts and recipes but the truth is I just love using their product. This Funky Fields Burger is sure to hit the burger spot.

I’ve made everything from simple bolognese sauce to shepherds pie to Mexican feasts to home made sausage rolls. It’s as versatile as beef mince but with all the benefits of a plant based alternative.

These burgers have been a work in progress for a while now as I’ve been playing around with the flavourings to get that great burger flavour.

I also discovered a delicious home made ketchup recipe which goes so well in this burger. I made a heap of it and it’s been in my fridge getting slathered on pretty much everything I’ve been eating. I used to think making things like sauces and chutneys would be difficult but after using this recipe I have realised it’s a actually really simple.

If you don’t have the time to make this home made ketchup, buy some decent store bought tomato or fruit chutney instead.

In terms of serving size, it really is pretty subjective. I find that I get 3 decent Ravenous Vegan sized burger patties from a single 400 gram container of the Funky Fields mince. But some people may want to squeeze more out of the pack.

In terms of condiments I have gone with a really simple stack here as the chutney really steals the show in terms of flavour. There are other times where I’ve gone cray with the vegan mayonnaise, mustard and vegan cream cheese in my burgers, and oh do I love them like that too.

Get your hands dirty when mixing the mince, play with the stack, and let me know what you think of these delicious vegan burgers.

  • 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast Flakes Sometimes called Savoury Yeast Flakes
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil 1 tbsp for the mix, 1 tbsp for the pan.

  • 3 slices Vegan Cheese I use the Sheese mature cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tomato Sliced into thick slices

  • Mix all of the burger patty ingredients together by hand in a bowl.
  • Divide into 3 equal balls and flatten into thick burger patties.
  • Heat a fry pan with 1 tbsp of oil over medium to low heat. This is important so that they don't burn.
  • Cook on each side for about 5 minutes until nicely browned. Remove from the heat.
  • Top the patties with the sliced cheese and put under a grill for a few minutes until the cheese melts.
  • Assemble burgers to your liking.
